There are no pre requisites for entry - however it is expected that students undertaking the course will have some dance experience. Each unit requires 50 hours of scheduled classroom tuition. Lessons are one and a half hours duration (per unit) with weekly attendance necessary. STYLE OF DANCE: The VCE Dance style undertaken at CrazyFeet is Contemporary. Students are required to attend the VCE Theory Class, Contemporary class, Limber class and one additional class of their choice. Students may use any form of movement when constructing their dances eg. ballet, tap, jazz (hip-hop / funk) modern, contemporary, ethnic. Please consult the separate CrazyFeet timetable schedule VCE DANCE REQUIREMENTS: VCE Dance requires a balance of written and performed work. Units 1 and 2 may be taken alone but Units 3 and 4 must be completed as a sequence CONTENT UNIT 1: The body as an instrument of expression includes a study of Anatomy, Technique, Composition and Performance. UNIT 2: Explores expanding the student's dance movement vocabulary, analysis of nominated works, history of dance (Primitive through to the Romantic Period), Technique, Composition and Performance. UNIT 3: Develops Choreographic skills, Technique, analysis of solo works, Technique, Composition and Performance UNIT 4: Refines Choreographic skills, analysis of group works, Technique, Composition and Performance. Unit 3 and 4 scores are 50% for the performance (before four assessors in October) of two works choreographed by the student, the Technique solo from Unit 3 and the Composition solo from Unit 4: 25% for Class work (SACS) and 25% for a Theory examination in November, undertaken at the student's home school. ADVISING YOUR SCHOOL: It is important that each student advises their school that they wish to take VCE Dance when making their subject choices for 2010. Units 1 and 2 are usually taken in Year 10 or Year 11 and Units 3 and 4 in Year 11 and 12. It is not recommended that students take Units 3 and 4 without first studying Units 1 and 2. COURSE TEACHER AND CO-ORDINATOR: FAYE JOHNSON ROSS Ms Johnson Ross has forty years of experience teaching dance in both educational institutions and in the private sector. She was involved with the creation, implementation, trial and review of the VCE Dance and Dance Styles studies' designs and contributed to the Course Development Support Material. Ms Johnson Ross has been a State Verification Chairperson and State Reviewer for Dance Styles and a Performance Assessor for Dance, Dance Styles and VCE Vet Dance. Ms Johnson Ross holds a Dip. Arts (Dance) from the Victorian College of the Arts, and is a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (London) and an Examiner for the Cecchetti Ballet Society of Australia. She is also a registered teaching member of the Royal Academy of Dance and the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing.. To add to these many qualifications she also holds a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
